When the Gallant "Gordon Highlanders" charged the deadly heights at Dargai, October 1897, five of the Pipers dashed with their comrades into the Zone of fire piping the quickstep "Cock O' the North;" four of them were hit, one though shot through both legs, dragged himself into a sitting posture, and lustily piped the stiring old Scottish Air until the heights were won!!
